Petr Sykora made an immediate splash upon arriving in the NHL, putting together a stellar rookie campaign for the New Jersey Devils during the 1995-96 season. Selected 18th overall in the 1995 draft, the 19-year-old Czech winger proved he belonged by racking up 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 63 games. His dynamic offensive instincts earned him the NHL Rookie of the Month honors for December and a spot on the NHL All-Rookie Team. This impressive debut season laid the groundwork for an outstanding 15-year NHL career, where Sýkora would eventually capture two Stanley Cups and finish with 721 points across 1,017 career games.
